KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) — The 8th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2011 is moving towards a transformation this year with the event focused on Incoming Buying Missions (IBM).

MIHAS, previously looked to a mix of trade and retail.

After being placed under the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade),Mihas switched its focus from consumer and trade to trade only, said its chief executive officer, Mohd. Shukri Abdullah.

“Our focus this year is for Malaysian entrepreneurs to vault into the international market with Matrade’s help as the MIHAS owner,” he told Bernama here Friday.

He also said that the transformation can be seen with the change in this year’s exhibition, where the first three days, have been alloted to traders and only the last day is for the public.

The MIHAS 2011 will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from April 6-9. All 514 exhibition lots have been sold and there are still 40 companies on the waiting list.

Shukri hoped many entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs will visit the MIHAS 2011, and see for themselves the potential of halal products and subsequently, become involved in this industry.

“It is hoped, the public,on the other hand, will come on the last day. It must be noted that those 18 and below, are not allowed to attend,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shukri said the halal exhibition for consumers will be held at the end of the year.
