Kuala Lumpur – The objectives of the conference are to give exposure to all parties on the implementation of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, halal law enforcement within the veterinary services, product imports and also Local Government Act debate.

The first time conference will be continued annually as the platform to all halal enforcer in Malaysia to gathered, exchange information and discuss issues related to the law enforcement, the application of halal certificates and also the official Malaysia halal logo. Through this conference, experiences will be shared and to develop constructive ideas for strengthening halal agenda internationally.

Furthermore, the conference aims to serve as a platform to synchronize related policies and standardization in all aspects of Halal Certification Malaysia especially in the monitoring and enforcement of halal certification between JAKIM, all states and associated agencies. The usages of a standard in legal Act, standards, certificates, logos and system will definitely improve the quality and integrity of the Malaysia Halal Certification services and eventually support the Halal Certification Malaysia as the world leader in Halal Hub.

Additionally, also launched today is the Halal Certification System for pharmaceutical products. This new certification scheme will open to manufacturers of pharmaceutical products to apply for Halal certification starting from 15th October 2012. Halal pharmaceutical products will use your standard Malaysia, Halal Pharmaceuticals: General Guidelines, MS 2424:2012. This standard has just been launched by the Deputy Minister of Malaysia on the 1st October 2012. Halal certification scheme still maintains a voluntary concept where the applicant has a choice whether to apply or not.

However, the demand for Halal pharmaceutical products increased lately. Therefore, the launch of a certification scheme today seemed so relevant. Among the pharmaceutical products included in this certification are:
i) Pharmaceutical products that contain poisons that are not scheduled as wound dressings (medicated plaster), antiseptic;
ii) Traditional medicines such as homeopathy, traditional medicines and herbal teas;
iii) Supplement health such as vitamins, EPO.
As the result, the certification is based on the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as set out in the guidelines of pharmaceuticals manufacturing.
