The Ministry of Commerce (MOC) is moving forward to boost the country’s economy by organizing yet another significant trade event of the year, the THAIFEX – World of Food Asia 2011. The country’s grandest annual food exposition will once again strengthen Thailand’s image as the hub of food products and food-related technology and services in Asia. The Ministry is confident that this comprehensive showcase featuring leading domestic and international food entrepreneurs will attract more than 93,000 visitors worldwide, and generate at least 3 Billion Baht in revenue.
Mrs. Porntiva Nakasai, Minister of Commerce, stated that, “The food industry has continuously played an important role in Thailand’s economy, and today, the world’s food demand tends to increase due to the increased population and prosperity in many key markets such as ASEAN countries, China, India and Russia. Also, another reason for the world’s rising food demand is the effect of natural disasters in many food-producing countries. Thailand’s food export industry has directly benefited from this and has expanded substantially, especially during the first three months of 2011 when the total export value reached 6,287.67 Million USD, or an 18.66% increase from the same period in 2010.”
“With this surge in demand, the Ministry has adjusted its target for Thailand’s overall export growth to increase from 10% to 12%, taking the country’s total export value to be approximately 219,000 Million USD, from last year. We are confident in achieving these targets because Thailand is abundant in quality raw materials and skilled labour in producing high quality food products enough for both domestic consumption and for export. Moreover, leading Thai food entrepreneurs are capable of innovating for new productsl, as well as, creating advanced technology, appealing packaging designs, efficient logistical systems, dependable food safety standards, and, social responsibility measures – all of which will contribute to satisfying the various food demands of consumers all over the world.”, explained Mrs. Porntiva.
It was further noted by Mrs. Porntiva that, “The Royal Thai Government has implemented a number of defensive and proactive measures to help continuously promote the xport of Thai food products and services, and one of them is, undoubtedly, the organization of THAIFEX – World of Food Asia 2011. Organized under the theme of ‘Your Recipe for Success in Asia’ with the collaboration between the Department of Export Promotion, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the world-class German event organizer Koelnmesse, THAIFEX – World of Food Asia 2011 runs from May 25th to 29th, 2011, at IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani. Now in its 20th year, this long-standing series aims to effectively establish a strong presence of Thai food products in international markets and to promote Thailand as one of the most significant destinations for food products, food technology and food expositions in ASIA Pacific.”
“THAIFEX – World of Food Asia 2011 is an international exposition that will attract potential buyers from around the globe. The event will feature a vast variety of innovative food products and technologies from leading food companies domestically and internationally. This year, in particular, the number of overseas exhibitors has increased by 15% from key markets such as Brunei, China, Myanmar, South Korea, as well as, a number of ethusiastic first-timers from Mexico and Italy. THe event is anticipated to attract more that 93,000 buyers, exporters and business people worldwide, as well as, to generate more than 3 Billion Baht in revenue for the country.” explained the Minister of Commerce.
Highlights include the showcase of a vast variety of food products, beverages, kitchen utensils, food-producing equipment and machinery, hotel catering equipment, as well as, food-related services, consultation service for hotel businesses, retail technology, and overseas franchising. Visitors will delight in an impressive showcase featuring over 2,600 booths and more than 1,000 companies.
In addition, THAIFEX – World of Food Asia 2011 will run from May 25th to 29th at Challenger 1-3, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, and will be divided into two parts. Interested food entrepreneurs are encouraged to engage business negotiations during the first three days, May 25th-27th, from 10.00 to 18.00. On the last two days, May 28th-29th, from 10.00 to 20.00, it will be open for public retailing.
