Bandar Seri Begawan – Some fifty participants from the Jame’ `Asr Hassanil Bolkiah’s Muslimah guidance class attended a briefing on halal products yesterday.
Among other things, the briefing was aimed at providing better understanding and enhancing the participants’ awareness on halal products in the market, as well as on the roles and responsibilities of the Halal Food Control Unit, the Department of Syariah Welfare.
Dyg Hjh Rabi’atul Adawiyah bte Hj Ahmad, the presenter, said that the unit has constantly monitored and analysed food products available in the local market.
The activity is an ongoing process whereby the unit will not only monitor the food being catered in restaurants for its halal contents but also food products on the shelves of supermarkets as well as mini-marts.
She also said that the food industry is constantly being checked for its halal
values, particularly those businesses involved in the food processing industry including the ingredients used in food processing.
She then touched on the Brunei Halal brand, as well as the criteria of Halal. Halal is being termed as designated food seen as permissible according to the Islamic law.
The briefing was conducted by the Halal Food Control Unit, the Department of Syariah Welfare, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
