SMEs Halal Workshop On Preparation Towards World Halal Market

With the world’s total Muslim population at 2 billion, the halal food industry becomes one of the most rapid business enterprises in the world, valued at more than 560 billion U.S. dollars a year. The world halal market always comes up with various business opportunities for entrepreneurs who are sensitive towards consumers’ needs, either in the form of products or related support services. Such a promising investment climate certainly opens many profitable business opportunities that in turn generate job opportunities as desired. The matter was underlined by the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources at the Official Opening of the 2nd Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs Halal Workshop this morning.

Pengiran Hajah Mariana Pengiran Dipa Negara Laila Diraja Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin went on to say that the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources will implement its new initiative to support and assist SMEs develop local companies to penetrate the export market. According to Pengiran Hajah Mariana, this new initiative which is a form of financial assistance called Export Repayment Scheme, will be channeled through several commercial banks and offers a maximum loan of 500 thousand dollars for each loan.

The main objective of the SMEs Halal Workshop themed, “SMEs’ preparation towards World Halal Market” is to discuss and provide understanding of the implementation strategy and the Action Plan of the Halal Industry Development Programme for local SMEs, particularly in the the food sector, through sharing of information with Ghanim International Food Corporation. The workshop is also to share up-to-date information on the development of the halal market in various sectors at the regional and global levels. Eighty potential entrepreneurs and association representatives as well as the government agencies are attending the workshop organised by the Industrial Development Centre of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.
