Refer To Religious Council Before Enrolling In Classes – Jamil Khir

News From : DagangHalal.com (05 Sep 2010)

GURUN, Sept 5 (Bernama) — Muslims have been advised to refer to the respective district religious offices or state religious councils prior to enrolling in religious classes to avoid getting dragged into deviant groups.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said this would ensure that the institution they had chosen was certified to teach religion.

He said teaching religion was a noble cause, but people needed to be careful that the classes did not spread deviant teachings.

“Places where deviant teachings are disseminated trick people with fantasies and fun. People are attracted to what such places offer … a chance to cleanse their sins easily,” he told reporters after presenting zakat (tithes) and Aidilfitri aid to poor people and mosques in the Gurun state constituency, here today.

He said the government continuously monitored deviant teachings because they could cause Muslims to lose confidence in their religion.

On another matter, Jamil Khir said that upon implementation of the Halal Act in October the government would be empowered to act against companies which issued “halal” certificates as this could only be done by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim).

He said the existing laws could not restrict any quarters from obtaining halal certificates from other sources other than Jakim or state religious authorities.
