KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 (Bernama) — Those intending to hold Aidilfitri open houses are today reminded by the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to ensure all ingredients used in the food preparation are halal (permissible in Islam).
Jakim director-general, Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz, said the department encouraged the practice of hosting open houses because it could foster closer ties and create harmony among the people of various races and religions.
“As consumers, we have the right to choose and for Muslims, it is compulsory to ensure that the items we bought, like chicken, meat and animal-based products, are halal,” he said in a statement here today.
