News From : DagangHalal.com (29 Mar 2010)

Karachi—The Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT), with the goal of spurring investment in Punjab, is organising Punjab Investor Conference 2010 on April 14. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will not only inaugurate the event but would also be available for a detailed networking session at lunch with business people who have specific proposals to discuss. After a successful investment conference in Lahore in February, the direction set by the Punjab Chief Minister is to take the first step towards outreach to Karachi-based investors possessing wider net of corporate influence through better access to international markets, a sophisticated financial industry serving as backbone for entrepreneurship and a mature mercantile industry.

As this city’s wealth prepares for mega projects, Punjab offers Karachi investment depth into a growing food industry that rests on the prediction of a steep rise in commodity prices and a cache of reserves in iron ore, cotton, hydro and other natural resources.

The global food crisis, depleting cultivable land resources and an emerging water crisis due to climate change pose a challenge to Pakistan as well as an opportunity for the country to invest in sustainable and cutting-edge technology to keep the supply of essential items stable.

The export potential is also vast in any of these sectors, especially in the livestock industry projects such as Halal Meat which is valued at a trillion US dollars globally. PBIT believes that this one-to-one networking session will allow investors to gauge the political will in Punjab Government to make investing easy and hassle-free.—Agencies
