KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 28 (Bernama) — Pertima Terengganu Sdn Bhd (Pertima), a subsidiary company of Perbadanan Memajukan Iktisad Negeri Terengganu, is set to be one of the world’s major halal hub, especially in processing and canning of ‘korban’ (sacrificial) meat.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said Pertima, which was established in 1972, would be able to accept bigger orders of canned ‘korban’ meat with the RM3.5 million allocation received to raise the capacity of its factory.

“We will diversify the production of this factory in line with the state government’s aspiration to make Pertima one of the world’s major halal hub,” he said before flagging off the delivery of Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) ‘korban’ meat products at Pertima’s factory in Cendering industrial area, here Sunday.

Also present were IRW representative from Birmingham, London, Dr Adel Sabir and Malaysia IRW director Zawahir Abdullah.

Ahmad said as a long-established company, the government also believed Pertima had developed a solid base to move further in the business.

“Pertima’s effort in entering the open market with product canning contract had been fruitful and this activity must be intensified to ensure that the company will continue to succceed in the future, like having its own slaugther centre,” he said.

Ahmad also suggested that the company grabs the opportunity to produce various halal canned foods for international market.

This year, Pertima is expected to process 300 tonnes of mutton by producing approximately 285,000 cans which would be shipped to countries in need of humanitarian aid like Chad and Lebanon in the Middle East.

Apart from the United Kingdom-based IRW, Pertima had also collaborated with other international non-governmental organisations, namely the Muslim Aid Australia and Human Appeal International Australia in processing and canning of ‘korban’ meat.
