Noodle Products Halal, Says Twenty-Twenty Food Industry

ALOR SETAR, April 8 (Bernama) — Twenty- Twenty Food Industry Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Padi Beras Nasional Bhd, has denied that its noodle products were not halal.

Its managing director, Tan Sey Lai, said the company received its halal certificate from Halal Development Corp on Dec 1, 2008 and would expire on Nov 30, 2011.

“Before this, the certificate was issued by Islamic Development Department.

“Our products are safe to eat and there should be no cause for doubt,” he told reporters after briefing officials from Jabatan Agama Islam Kedah (JAIK)and the Kedah branch of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) here on Thursday.

Tan said the dissemination of false information on the Internet by irresponsible parties has affected the company’s sales.

“The JAIK and KPDNKK officials were satisfied with the products after visiting the company,” he said.

He said currently, the company produced 1,200 metric tonnes of noodle products, of which 80 per cent were mee hun and 20 per cent laksa.

“They are sold locally and some were exported to Brunei and Singapore,” he said.

Tan said the company was in the process of expanding the factory and planned to produce dry kway teow soon.

“The expansion involves spending millions of ringgit for the purchase of automatic machines. This will allow us to maintain a high standard for our products,” he said.
