Nestle is in the process of boosting the profile of small and medium supply companies in Malaysia as it seeks to incorporate them into its promotion of halal food. There is a growing demand for halal products and the firm is identifying this as a fertile source of business and expansion.
Nestle wants to promote Malaysia as a central hotspot for halal products, and feels smaller companies in the area will benefit from the opportunities provided for growth, as they supply Nestle with raw and semi-processed meat. The business has signed a deal with the Halal Industry Development Corp. which will see smaller firms have the opportunity to participate in halal trade on a larger scale.
Nestle currently has 150 suppliers, forty of which are local.
