
Japanese food producer Ajinomoto is expanding in Southeast Asia and building a new plant in Malaysia for 85 million US dollars.
In Japan, Ajinomoto is responsible for the taste. According to Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), the economic development agency of the Federal Republic of Germany, the company controls about 80 percent of the domestic spice market. In its international sales, spices and monosodium glutamate each form the most important basis with 27 percent.
Over the next five years, the company wants to accelerate its growth and become one of the ten largest food companies worldwide.
Ajinomoto plans to expand in the growth markets of Southeast Asia, among others. In Malaysia, the company is building a plant that will strengthen the development and production of halal-compliant food. The investment is estimated at 85 million US dollars, and production is scheduled to start in April 2022.
