EDINBURGH, Oct.28, 2010 (News Agencies) — .
Cosmopolitan cities around the world are witnessing a new trend of restaurants catering to their diverse communities. The attempts to meet the culinary needs of a sophisticated & youthful Muslim generation are most prominent. Businesses in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh are also catching on this wave. The latest entrant is a Halal Chinese restaurant which will open next month.
Dragon Way recently received halal certification and will be ‘fully halal’ according to its owner. Owner Michael Yip said: “It was during the summer, at a charity event to raise money for the Pakistan disaster, I was asked if I could make the organisers a halal Chinese meal.
“Edinburgh is famous for its restaurants, however, halal diners are very restricted in terms of where they can eat out.”
He said he hoped the move would also improve the quality of the meat served in the restaurant as it would arrive fresh and had no added water.
Organized halal activities are increasingly on the rise in Scotland. The first ever trade show and convention called Be Halal was held at the Glasgow Mosque earlier this month in the country’s largest city.
