Local food and beverage manufacturing companies secured RM3.44 million in sales during the Foodex Japan 2009 show held from March 3 to 6 in Tokyo.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) coordinated and led the participation of Malaysian companies at Foodex Japan, the largest event in the Asia-Pacific region and third largest food and beverage show in the world.
During the four-day event, the Malaysian companies received more than 1,000 business enquiries not only from Japanese buyers but also from overseas visitors from South Korea, Taiwan, Syria and the Philippines, Matrade said in a statement today.
“Foodex Japan is an ideal platform for Malaysian companies to promote their ‘Made in Malaysia’ products to Japanese and other regional markets,” said Matrade chief executive officer Datuk Noharuddin Nordin.
“With heightened global concerns about food prices, security and safety, Malaysian companies have a unique opportunity to not only address these concerns but also demonstrate that Malaysia’s food and beverage sector is capable of producing products of world-class quality,” he said.
The participating companies displayed products such as biscuits, cookies, cakes, oils (palm oil, sesame oil and vegetable oil), pudding, jelly, snacks, cocoa and chocolate products, confectionery, frozen bakery and pastry products, coffee, tea, cereal and carrageenan (food ingredients).
In addition, three government agencies comprising Halal Development Corporation, Malaysian Pepper Board and Sarawak’s Chief Minister Department also participated to introduce Malaysian halal certified products, Sarawak pepper and other products from Sarawak.
