Commerce Ministry spearheads this food extravaganza that aspires to underline Thailand’s capabilities as the ‘Kitchen of the World’

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), the Ministry of Commerce, has once again partnered with the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) and the world-class German event organizer Koelnmesse in organizing THAIFEX – World of Food ASIA 2013. This once-a-year premier food exposition promises an astonishing array of food innovations presented by over 3,100 leading food producers from all around Thailand and beyond, and it aims to further underscore Thailand’s status as a leading food producing and exporting hub of the region. The event is anticipated to attract over 93,000 international visitors.

Mrs. Srirat Rastapana, DITP Director-General, stated that, “This year, the Department of International Trade Promotion has been tasked with creating a strategy to sustainably increase the competitiveness of Thai food products in the world marketplace under the grand plan to establish Thailand as the ‘Kitchen of the World’. To achieve this, the Department has in place a range of programs and activities to help take Thai food exports to ever new heights of success. They include training programs to develop Thai food products, as well as, improve the business skills of Thai food producers. We also take groups of trade delegates to participate in overseas trade fairs, and, hold events to promote Thai food products overseas. In addition, the ‘Thai Select’ logo has been created to help promote Thai restaurants abroad and Thai food products with outstanding quality in terms of great taste, unique Thai-ness and authentic Thai ingredients.”

THAIFEX – World of Food ASIA 2013 represents yet another proactive move to help steer Thailand to become the ‘Kitchen of the World’, and this year’s event marks another successful collaboration between the DITP, the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) and world-class German event organizer Koelnmesse. Organized under the theme “Savor the Best in Asia”, this year’s THAIFEX event is sure to retain its status as Thailand’s premier food exposition and a great platform to demonstrate the outstanding capabilities of the Thai food industry, the abundance of quality raw materials and advanced food-producing technologies.

“Thai food is undoubtedly one of the country’s most important export items, generating over 20 Billion USD in revenue for Thailand. Currently, we are faced with the challenge of a stronger Thai Baht, however, during the first quarter of this year alone (Jan-Mar 2013), Thailand’s total food export value already reached 4.4 Billion USD, or a 3.6 growth over the same period last year. Top growth items include fruit and vegetables – either fresh, frozen or processed – which grew by 6.8%. The next high-growth items are seafood – either frozen, canned or processed – which grew by 2.7%. Moreover, many new economic measures which will take effect in many of Thailand’s major trading partners such as the Expansionary Monetary Policy in the United States; the clearer economic policies in Japan; and, the expected ongoing economic growth in China and Asia will all be favorable to Thailand’s food exports during the later half of the year.”, noted Mrs. Srirat.

THAIFEX – World of Food ASIA 2013 is scheduled to run from May 22nd to 26th, at Challenger 1-3, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, on a grand venue of over 60,000 sqm. – 10% larger than in the previous year.
The first three days, May 22nd to 24th, from 10.00 to 18.00, are Trade Days for businesspeople; and the last two days, May 25th to 26th, from 10.00 to 20.00, are Retail Days for the general public.

Visitors to this year’s event will marvel at a wondrous gathering of food innovations and food-producing technologies from all around Thailand and overseas. They will also benefit from learning about food retailing and franchising businesses, as well as, other related service businesses. Over 1,100 leading food companies who occupy over 3,100 booths at this year’s event are from 35 countries around the world, including China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Brunei, Brazil, Turkey and Thailand. The event promises to be a great platform for Thai food producers to meet and engage in direct business negotiations with high-potential buyers from around the world. THAIFEX 2013 anticipates to attract over 93,000 international.

Highlights not to be missed include ‘Halal Food and Organic Food’ exhibition; ‘Eco and Innovative: Treat the World With Sustainability’ exhibition; ‘Fair Trade exhibition’; activities promoting Thai food, Thai food franchises and Thai restaurants; ‘World of Seafood’ exhibition; ‘Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge 2013’; and the coffee beans contest which is being organized for the first time at a THAIFEX event.
