KUCHING, April 23 (Bernama) – Takaful Ikhlas Sdn Bhd is eyeing premiums of RM25 million in its third year of operation in Sarawak, President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Syed Moheeb Syed Kamarulzaman said on Friday.
Last year, Takaful Ikhlas raked in premiums of about RM18 million.
“Although this is only the third year of operations, the company has been progressively improving the premiums total, with about RM18 million collected last year compared to RM12 million in 2008,” he said.
To achieve the RM25 million targets, he disclosed that Takaful Ikhlas is now aggressively promoting its product, the Ikhlas Hajj Savings Takaful, launched last year.
Marketing however, was postponed to enhance the product features.
The Ikhlas Hajj Savings Takaful is a protection as well as investment savings plan designed to assist and fulfill the needs of those planning to perform the hajj.
“Takaful Ikhlas started marketing this product nationwide from Tuesday and the response so far has been very good,” Syed Moheeb told reporters at the official launch of the Ikhlas Hajj Savings Takaful here.
The launch was officiated by the state Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Datuk Amar Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg.
According to Syed Moheeb, Takaful Ikhlas is organizing a special campaign, “Road to Mecca in 100 days”, until July 2010 to generate interest in the product not only among customers, but also agents promoting it.
He said lucky policy holders have an opportunity to win RM5, 000 cash which will be deposited into their Tabung Haji account.
As for the agents, they too are being dangled a RM5, 000 cash incentive for achieving the highest sales for the product, with the money also being deposited into their Tabung Haji account.
Syed Moheeb said during the campaign, Takaful Ikhlas expects to rake in RM5 million in premiums nationwide.
“From the first day of the Malaysia Unit Trust Week (MSAM 2010) until now, we have seen an increase in the number of daily subscriptions, with more than 180 to date for the network of takaful products,” he added.
Takaful Ikhlas has introduced more than 80 products to date. It has targeted to achieve 500 subscriptions during the MSAM 2010.
“We will expand the network of Takaful Ikhlas agents, especially in Sarawak, where there are now about 100 from the 7,000 nationwide,” he said.
Recently, Takaful Ikhlas signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs’ Chamber, Transnational Insurance Broker and the Royal Malaysia Police Co-operative Sarawak branch, for them to be its agents in the state to sell insurance products.
Takaful Ikhlas has two customer service centers in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor with areas offices in Kuching, Kota Bharu, Johor Bahru, Sungai Petani, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan, Ipoh, Putrajaya and more recently, Kuala Terengganu.
It is a subsidiary of MNRB Holdings Bhd, an investment Holdings Company listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia. Its principal shareholder is Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB).
