KOTA KINABALU, March 9 (Bernama) — Regional herbal companies have been urged to explore the possibility of investing or expanding their businesses in Sabah.

Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Peter Pang En Yin, said Sabah, with its rainforests, rare species of flora and fauna, was an ideal place for herbal plantation.

He said Sabah has an extensive biodiversity in the world.

“Many of the medications that are in use today have been created through the combination of the exotic vegetation.

“I also learnt that about a quarter of all medication today is produced using resources from the rainforest,” he said at a meeting with officials of the EU Yan Sang Group of Companies here Tuesday.

Eu Yan Sang, a listed company in Singapore, opened its first outlet in the state at the Suria Mall.

“This augurs well for the herbal industry in the state,” he said.

Pang said people turned to Chinese medicines or herbal remedies for a long-term restoration of health and to strengthen one’s defence system.
