– Halal Certified Materials Associated With Quality For Cosmetics, Clothing, And Other Products For Daily Life
– Supports Malaysia’s Position As Halal Production Hub
Kuala Lumpur – May 14, 2010 – Ten Chemicals Produced At The BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Integrated Site In Kuantan Are Now Certified Halal By The Department Of Islamic Development Of Malaysia (JAKIM).
The Halal certified chemicals are used in a variety of applications in daily life, including cosmetics, perfumes, pharmaceutical ingredients, gloves, shoes, disposable diapers and hygiene products, sports attire, artificial leather, adhesives, packaging and coatings.
“Complying with Halal requirements demonstrates our commitment to responsibility towards our customers in all industry segments who are adhering to Halal specifications. Conforming to this certification gives our customers the confidence and advantage in marketing their products to the market. At the same time, this new certification supports the country’s aspiration to make Malaysia a global hub for the production and trade in Halal goods and services,” said Dr. Thomas Ruehl, Director of Business Management of BASF PETRONAS Chemicals.
The benefits of Halal certification are not limited to producers targeting Muslim customers. Halal is often associated with safe, clean and nutritious food, prepared according to Islamic principles.
Since Halal specifications are also extended to non-food applications like pharmaceuticals, health products, cosmetics and toiletries, the demand for Halal- certified products have increased rapidly among a broader spectrum of customers. According to the World Halal Forum, the total size of the global Halal food market was about US$635 billion in 2009 including both Muslim and non Muslim countries and the estimated annual global market value for the entire Halal trade at US$2.1 trillion according to the Halal Industry Development Corporation.
