BANDAR BAHARU, June 16 (Bernama) — With a monthly turnover of 1.2 million salted eggs, Pimpin Setia Sdn Bhd is now looking to expand to the Asean as well as Middle East markets.

Pimpin Setia is a joint venture company to process salted eggs on a commercial scale.

Managing Director Lau Hai Poo said the company is now not only able to produce salted eggs on a large scale but has also received the ISO 9001:2008 certification for processing salted eggs and the BM Trade Certification, ISO 2200:2005, to enable its products to be exported.

Lau, 46, said to ensure the supply of eggs, the company rears 50,000 ducks at three 10-hectare farms.

Two of the farms are located next to its processing factory, with the other, not too far away.

“We need an average supply of between 40,000 to 45,000 eggs daily to meet customer demand,” he told reporters at Pimpin Setia’a new RM2 million factory at Kampung Baharu, Bagan Samak, here today.

The company began operations in 1998 with 3,000 ducks and only sold eggs.

Lau then turned to the traditional method of processing salted eggs before teaming up with bumiputera entrepreneurs in 2003 to expand the business.

He now has 20 workers and processes his products using two large machines at the new factory with the ability to process between 35,000 to 40,000 salted eggs daily.

The eggs are distributed to customers throughout the country, including Sabah and Sarawak.

Apart from supplying salted eggs, the company also produces “Century Eggs”, specifically during the Moon Cake festival season.

It also makes available “red eggs” (egg yolks) for Moon Cake entrepreneurs in Kedah and Penang.

Lau said Pimpin Setia has now secured a five-acre piece of former mining land, with TOL status, on the edge of Pekan Serdang near here to rear 50,000 more ducks specifically for the Middle East and Singapore export market.

“Together with a director of the company, Fisol Said, we are striving to get the Halal certification from the Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM),” he disclosed.

According to Fisol, the company had met all the JAKIM requirements but was still awaiting the issuance of the certificate.

He said, once the Halal certification is obtained, the company can begin to export its products to Asean and the Middle East.
