KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) — Pahang will become the first producer of ‘halal’ gelatine products in the country following the agreement of the state government to provide a site for the construction of a gelatine factory.
The director of the Universal Economic Foundation, Zulkefli Mohamad, said the factory would produce Type B gelatine, a component used in the food and medical industries.
The Type B gelatine is derived from the bones and skins of bovine animals such as cattle, goats and buffaloes.
He said a memorandum had been signed between the foundation and the Pahang state government at the International Halal Exhibition (MIHAS 2010) held at the federal capital last month.
“Upon completion, it will be able to help the halal industry in Malaysia to expand faster in producing gelatine products for the domestic and foreign markets,” he told Bernama after appearing in the ‘Hello Malaysia’ programme, here Thursday night.
