KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama)– The Malaysian Department of Islamic Development or Jakim revealed that only 46 of the 96 premises serving Ramadan buffets, complied with the Malaysian “halal” or lawful certification standard.

The 46 comprised 22 hotels and 24 restaurants while 33 hotels and 17 restaurants did not adhere to the standard, thus were misusing their promotion, Jakim’s Director-General Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz said.

He said this was confirmed during the inspection and monitoring by Jakim’s Halal hub division with cooperation from the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism for the past 29 days of the Ramadan month.

All the inspections were carried out around Kuala Lumpur, in Pahang, Selangor and Kedah, including five stars and below hotels with the halal certificates, he said in a statement here Wednesday.

He said this did not include inspections carried out by the respective state Islamic Religious departments.

He said members of the public can obtain further information on the halal certification and the list of Jakim halal certificate holders, through its website, www.halal.gov.my.
