MTE Participation Fee Cut By 73%

Davao City (7 August) — THE organizer of the Mindanao Trade Expo (MTE) 2009 has announced that this year’s participation fee to the biggest trade event is cut by 73 percent.

MTE 2009 chair Ann T. Pamintuan said that from P18,000, the participation fee is now pegged at P4,800 per booth. Of this amount, P1,200 goes to the annual membership fee of the participant to the MTE Foundation, Inc. while the remaining amount is for the booth rental.

Pamintuan said that the cut in the fee is because of the huge subsidy provided by the Export Development Council (EDC).

“We are just grateful with the EDC’s assistance. With this, we are very optimistic that more Mindanao micro, small and medium enterprises will be encouraged to join. This is their chance to promote their products and find new business partners and markets at a minimal cost of P4,800,” she said.

The MTE 2009, which is slated on August 13 to 16 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in Davao City, is expected to gather 100 exhibitors and rake in an aggregate sales of P30 million.

Anchoring on the theme “MTE Bounces Back”, the organizer is determined to showcase a new MTE along with some impressive features especially that it went into hiatus last year due to some concerns.

“The MTE Board has decided to have a re-launch of MTE after we’ve received several suggestions and inquiries from previous exhibitors and other stakeholders. After some discussions, we told ourselves that it is indeed very important to bring back MTE into the forefront of MSME development platform,” she said.

Pamintuan added that with the present global economic meltdown, MSMEs must be backed up for them not to lose their presence in the trading arena.

Among the products that will be showcased during the four-day trade expo are furniture and furnishings, fine pieces of jewelry, fashion accessories, home textile, garments, processed food, fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and ornamentals, and tourism services and facilities.

Since 1996 until 2007, the MTE has already gathered a total of 1,590 exhibitors, 577 visiting buyers, and generated at least P600 million in sales. (MTE)
