KUCHING, Dec 29 (Bernama) — The Sarawak Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) will not hesitate to withdraw the halal certificate issued to chicken slaughterhouses which do not conform to the stipulated conditions and regulations.
Its president, Datuk Putit Matzen said the council, through the Sarawak Islamic Religious Council (JAIS), had suspended the halal certificate of a chicken slaughterhouse here for non-compliance.
“Don’t take lightly the question of halal and we, at MAIS and JAIS, will always ensure all chicken slaughter houses abide by the stipulated regulations,” he told reporters after conducting spot checks at three of nine chicken slaughterhouses here early Wednesday.
Putit said chicken slaughterhouses whose halal certificate had been withdrawn would be prohibited from using the halal logo on their products.
The certificate would be re-issued only after the slaughterhouses met the standards set by the Halal Certificate Technical Committee, he added.
During the three-hour check which ended at 3am, Putit said the halal certificate of a slaughterhouse had been suspended for not conforming to the regulations set by JAIS.
“It is a second warning issued to the slaughterhouse and if it continues to flout regulations, we will withdraw its licence,” he added.
