Livestock Sector Offers Vast Opportunities:CM

Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that there are vast opportunities of development of livestock sector which can help in overcoming poverty and unemployment as well as earning huge foreign exchange through export of Halal meat of international standard.

He was talking to a delegation of a European Company HACCP North, led by its Chief Executive Officer Dr. Navez Charles which called on him here today. The Chief Executive Officer of the company gave a briefing regarding development of livestock sector. Secretary Livestock, Secretary Law and Vice Chairman Punjab Investment Board were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that livestock sector is of vital importance in the economy of the province as a majority of rural population is associated with this sector. He said that uplift of livestock sector can help in prosperity of farmers as well as progress of the country. He said that livestock sector was neglected in the past but the present government is attaching due importance to the development of this sector. He said that five farms of modern cooperative farming will soon be completed in Cholistan while a state-of-the-art veterinary university is being set up in Bahawalpur. He said that there are vast opportunities of export of Halal meat to Malaysia, Middle East and other countries through setting up meat processing plant as these countries are currently importing meat from India.

He said that HACCP North has a wide experience in livestock sector and it should also extend cooperation in the development of this sector in Punjab so that high quality Halal meat could be exported. He said that the company should also make arrangements for certification and training in this regard. The Chief Minister directed Secretary Livestock and Vice Chairman Punjab Investment Board to settle all details with the company and an agreement should be signed for the development of livestock sector.
