KFC Expanding Halal Trial At 13 Further Outlets

News From : DagangHalal.com (29 Oct 2009)

FAST food chain KFC has extended a trial scheme selling halal chicken in Derby and Burton.

In April, the chain started selling halal meat at eight restaurants. It has now added another 13, including its drive-through units in Foresters Way, Derby and in Burton.

For the meat to be halal accredited, a verse is recited from the Koran at the point of slaughter.

KFC has said its chicken-killing method had not been changed, with the birds stunned first.

Because pork products are not halal, bacon will not be served at KFC trial stores and customers will be directed elsewhere.

A spokeswoman for KFC said: “For some time, we have received requests to provide halal food in parts of the UK and as a result of this we are running a trial within communities where we anticipate a strong demand for halal products.”

The company said that the trial would last for a number of months after which it would evaluate customer feedback and commercial results.
