KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) — The Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) has targeted ten Key Performance Indicators (KPI) this year to strengthen Islamic administration in the country.
Minister Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said it was aimed at upgrading the education and strengthening the socio-economic status of Muslims.
The KPIs were standardisation of Muslim family laws, improving the status of ‘Kelas Agama dan Fardhu Ain’ (Kafa) programmes, increasing the allowance of Kafa teachers, setting up Al-Hijrah Islamic television station, strengthening the halal food industry and creating a manual as reference for divorce cases in syariah courts.
Others were improving the Quran tahfiz (memorisation) institution, development of wakaf land, strengthening Ar-Rahnu (pawnbroking) and Tabung Haji,” he said at the monthly gathering of JPM agencies at Kompleks Pusat Islam here on Thursday.
Jamil said the standardisation of Muslim family laws would be done by gazetting the Muslim Family Law Bill (Federal Territories)(Amendment) 2006 in Sept.
Improvement of Kafa programmes include introducing a scheme for teachers by raising the allowance to above the RM720 poverty line by Oct.
He said the tahfiz institution would receive more recognition with the establishment of Dewan Huffaz Kebangsaan (national assembly of memorisers) in July.
JPM would also be operating Al-Hijrah Islamic television station expected to be launched on Dec 7.
The halal food industry would be strengthened by amending the Trade Descriptions Act 1972 in June.
