Halal Status Of Ramadan Buffet At 24 Klang Valley Hotels Suspect, Jakim DG

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama)– The halal status of Ramadan buffet offered at 24 Klang Valley hotels are suspect, said Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Dato Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz.

He said monitoring done by the department on 34 hotels rated five stars and below in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor since Ramadan started 10 days ago, found 70 per cent of them did not conform to the Malaysian Halal Certification standard.

“Among our findings were suspect items like alcohol being used in cooking, ingredients not having halal certification, chicken sourced from suspect suppliers, mixing of halal and non-halal items and stores not meeting halal standards,” he said in statement here Friday.

He added that the department would continue monitoring outlets offering Ramadan buffet and urged those to wanted more information on this to visit the www.halal.gov.my website.
