Bandar Seri Begawan – To safeguard the consumers, regular checks on Ramadhan stalls nationwide will be carried out to monitor the hygiene levels and ensure the `halalness’ of food sold at the Ramadhan stalls.
Yesterday afternoon, the Enforcement Unit of Belait Municipal Department spearheaded a joint operation with Health Inspectors from the Belait Health Department and officers from the Halal Food Control Section of the Religious Department to make sure traders met the standard level of cleanliness.
About 170 lots at Tudong Saji Ramadhan Stall along Jalan Setia Di-Raja Kuala Belait were inspected by the authorities in the joint operation Ops Bersepadu 27′ and were found to be in satisfactory condition.
The Head of the Enforcement Unit also reminded stallholders’ to take responsibility in maintaining the cleanliness of their surroundings as the Municipal Department has the jurisdiction to issue compounds under the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 12, Paragraph 30 whereby anyone caught disposing rubbish or littering in a public area can be fined $300 while a company or other agency can be fined $500.
Apart from providing petty traders the opportunity to earn extra income, it is also vital for them to make sure they maintain their hygiene and health standards to avoid food contamination, he added.
