Dubai May Say No To Alcohol Ban

News From : DagangHalal.com (26 Mar 2010)

In an apparent shift from its earlier stance on banning alcohol in hotels for food preparation, the Emirate’s Health Authorities are going to take U-turn from their earlier word. Clarifying the government’s stand on the issue, an official of the department said that rules had not been taken in right sense and there is no 100 percent ban of using alcohol in Dubai’s hotels.

It should be recalled that Dubai Officials issued a circular few days back banning use of alcohol in preparing food in the restaurants. There were provisions of fines ranging from $545 to $5,445 for violating the strict alcohol rules of the Muslim Community.

The Dubai municipality plans a special meet for clearing the doubts of hotels on the ban according to Uwe Micheel, President of the Emirates Culinary Guild and director of kitchens at the Radisson Blu Dubai Creek.

Micheel said that there is no chance of complete ban of alcohol but there could be strict restrictions for the hotels for using alcohol. He further added, “I expect the change will be that all the dishes prepared with alcohol will have to be on a separate menu.”
