MCD is planning to shut down the Idgah slaughterhouse completely from June, according to senior officials. Currently, the halal section is functional, while the jhatka section has been shifted to Ghazipur.
“A final decision is yet to be taken but we have made a proposal regarding this which will be tabled in the standing committee meeting soon. Once the Idgah slaughterhouse is shut down completely, slaughtering will take place only at Ghazipur. We are also planning to lease it out to a private party for one shift,” said a senior MCD official.
MCD is also supposed to set-up chilling plants to store meat and purchase refrigerated vans for transporting products to all parts of the city from Ghazipur.
