Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) through Family Development Division, Social and Community (KSK) had organized “Karnival BEST!” at Laman 1Malaysia, Putrajaya from 28th until 30th October 2011.
The carnival has received cooperation from Putrajaya Corporation (RPM) and further supported by the Malaysian AIDS Council,Nasyeed.com, DagangHalal.com and KasehDia while KOSMO! is the official press of the carnival.
A variety of interesting and positive activities has been arranged for the public, especially for the youth such as the “Forum Perdana” recordings entitled “Cinta BEST!” which specifically discussed the issue of uncontrolled romance among teenagers.
Besides, a ‘BEST Nasyid’ Champions competition was held and had very encouraging participation of 25 groups. But after the screening have been made, only 15 groups who participated in this competition. Nasyid groups who joined the competition mostly monopolized by Nasyid groups from public and private universities in Klang Valley.
Battle BEST of The Band Competition has also received very encouraging response. The participations are about 40 groups but screening has been made and only 12 groups are eligible to participate in this competition. Groups that participate in this competition consist of a group of teenagers around the Klang Valley.
The theme of the song lyrics for this competition is ‘Divine and Nature’. The Secretariat intends to call the groups who participated in this competition to participate in ethics courses on how to do a performance based on the syariah principles in future.
The climax of the carnival is “BEST! Concert” which have shown various artists such as Bob AF2, Mastika, Al-Farabi Band,Altimet and Mu’adz. The appearance of Fahrin Ahmad as host had enlivened the concert. Apparently the concert was also received overwhelming response.
There are other programs that take place such as recording of “Program Adik-adikku”, coloring contest, Spell It Right and BEST exercise. Besides, JAKIM also provides six booths for government agencies and NGOs as well as 50 stalls selling the local SMEs to promote their latest products. A lot of people came to support the carnival, which estimated around 15 – 20 thousand people in three days.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister, YB Senator Datuk Dr. Mashitah Binti Ibrahim, during the opening ceremony said, organizing “Karnival BEST!” is a missionary approach to attract and be able to expand our perceptions of the concept of “Amal Makruf Nahi Munkar” claimed by the teachings of Islam.
Therefore “Amar Makruf Nahi Mungkar” task should take into account the current situation with the various approaches and it is a shared responsibility. The organization of this carnival had also achieved its objective to expose and educate the public about the guidelines in accordance with Islamic law to enjoy the entertainment so that it will not be the cause of social ills.
Secretariat of the organizers hopes that the program will become an annual event of JAKIM. The secretariat has received applications from government agencies, statutory bodies and non-governmental organizations to make “Karnival BEST! (Buat Elok Saja Tau!) Roadshow” next year. Further discussions with the relevant agencies on this matter will be arranged.
