BoI Assists In Halal Products’ Certification To Boost Exports

Islamabad-The Board of Investment would facilitate private sector to explore and tap Pakistan’s potential for the Halal production with an aim to attract investments and enhance exports from the country. Halal Development Project (HDP), a non-governmental organization, has initiated a project to promote the Halal trade and industry of Pakistan to facilitate suppliers by providing platform for halal awareness, standards, certification, branding, marketing, investment promotion, industry development and updates. “The world standard certification of Pakistani food products would enhance exports from the country besides bringing in investments and creating new jobs,” Chairman BoI Saleem H. Mandviwalla, said while addressing a press conference here on Saturday. He was flanked by Chief Executive Officer HDP, Asad Sajjad and other officials of the project. He said that Pakistan was already exporting meat, however if certified at par with world standards, it would enhance its value in cash and thereby earn a good profit for the country.

Mandviwalla said that global financial crisis, security situation in Pakistan and energy crisis have been hampering investments into the country.The Halal Pakistan Project would help fight back against all those odds by attracting the halal market all over the world, he added.

Giving details about the projects, CEO HDP, Asad Sajjid said that the overall global Halal market, including all Halal products and services, ranges from a minimum of US$1.2 trillion to US$2 trillion per annum adding that share of Pakistan in this market was negligible.

He said that HDP would organize an international conference on “Halal and Islamic Business” to provide up-to-date information about Pakistani Halal market, discuss Halal related issues facing the industry and introduce Pakistan as a major supplier of Halal products. He said that objectives of the conference to be held in first week of April are to introduce the concept of Halal Pakistani brand, present Pakistan as the Halal hub of the region, highlight the potential of Halal trade in Pakistan and have inter acceptability for Pakistani standards with international Halal certifiers.- APP
