Beware Of False Halal Certificate

News From : DagangHalal.com (28 May 2009)

MUSLIMS have been urged to be cautious when eating at restaurants run by non-Muslims following the discovery of false halal certificates allegedly bought for RM5,000.

The ploy was to attract Muslim customers to dine at their outlets, reported Harian Metro.

The halal certification is in high demand among problematic non-Muslim restaurant operators who fail to adhere to Jakim’s stipulated regulations and procedures.

Investigations revealed that nearly 50,000 outlets throughout the country have halal certification which are not recognised by Jakim.

A Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) spokesman said a few restaurants were being investigated for having unrecognised halal certificates, believed to have been distributed by certain individuals for a huge profit.
