Art Not Forbidden In Islam: Ghamidi

LAHORE: RENOWNED religious scholar Javed Ahmed Ghamidi has declared all branches of art that are in accordance with Islamic teachings Halal.

Speaking at a special lecture at the Ejaz galleries after inauguration of the calligraphic paintings by Pakistani artists on Friday evening, he said that legitimacy of artistic creations depends on intensions of the artiste.

In a question-answer session after the special lecture titled “Art & Islam”, Ghamidi said the legitimacy of every creation by an artiste depended on his or her real intentions.

He said that Islam had forbidden all sculptures, statues and creations created for the purpose of worship.
