The Arab countries want to accept each other’s Halal certificates. The aim is to improve the competitiveness of halal foods.
In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a uniform agreement for the mutual recognition of Halal products and service certificates has been announced. One step towards improving the competitiveness of halal foods on international markets, according to a communication from the Emirati Standardisation Authority ESMA. The programme was announced at the 4th Global Halal Industry Platform. It takes place in cooperation with the Gulfood trade fair in Dubai and is organised by ESMA.
According to this, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is striving for a leading role in the global halal industry. In 2013, for example, the initiative “Dubai as Capital of the Islamic Economy” was launched. The UAE has also established the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Center and the International Halal Accreditation Forum, to which 32 member states belong, according to ESMA Director General Abdulla Al Maeeni.
The member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council alone imported halal products worth 50 billion US dollars. The Council comprises the following states: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.
