LABUAN: Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Yusoff Mahal today advised the people of Labuan to capitalise on the opportunities made available by the development projects here.
He said Labuan was an oil and gas production centre and an international offshore financial centre and would soon become a halal distribution hub.
“Why must we be mere observers when we can be the players?” he said when contacted by Bernama.
He said the RM1.5-billion Petronas methanol plant, construction of which began in 2006, could provide about 2,400 jobs when completed soon. The plant will be the third largest in the world, after those in Trinidad and Iran.
Yusoff said the people of Labuan should also begin to plan how to participate in the halal distribution hub coming up on a site in Kiansam near here.
Local entrepreneurs should be more creative and come up with products bearing the Labuan identity, he said. – Bernama
