3 July 2013, Kuala Lumpur – The World Islamic Tourism Mart 2013 (WITM 2013) was officially launched today at the Museum Restaurant & Cafe, Islamic Arts Museum, Kuala Lumpur by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia. WITM 2013 has the support of the following government ministries and organizations namely, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Tourism Malaysia, Islamic Tourism Malaysia.
Organised by the MICEM Sdn Bhd, a professional event organizer and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents (MATTA), WITM 2013 is projected to enhance the unrealized potential of the Muslim Tourism sector. With over 1.7 Billion Muslim population worldwide and a growing affluent Muslim society, the Muslim Tourism market is a gold mine waiting to be tapped. More and more travel agents and tour operators in Malaysia are setting up Muslim departments in their companies to offer Muslim tour packages. But there is no 1 stop platform or event in Malaysia for these tourism industry players to meet, network, showcase, market and sell their products and services and this is what precisely WITM 2013 will provide for the tourism industry.
At the Official Launching ceremony officiated by YBhg Dato’ Mirza, it was clearly highlighted that WITM 2013 is the ideal platform for all sectors of the tourism industry to be a part of to promote, network and sell their travel and tourism services & products.
WITM 2012 held last year was a success especially for an inaugural event occupying over 3,420sqm of exhibition space and 132 booths in total. There were 704 Quality Buyers from over 40 countries transacting business with Malaysian and International Sellers.
WITM 2013 will be held in conjunction with the MATTA FAIR Sept 2013 and be officially known as WITM-MATTA FAIR SEPT 2013. It is for travel agents & tour operators, airlines, hotels & resorts, national tourism organisations, state tourism offices, cruises, tourist attractions, wellness and spa and any tourism industry sectors.
WITM 2013 IN ITSELF WILL COMPRISE OF 3 SEPARATE SUB-EVENTS
1) TRAVEX OR TRAVEL EXCHANGE NETWORKING SESSION WHEREBY BUYERS MEET SELLERS:
Held over 2 days on 6 & 7 Sept 2013 in Hall 4 of Putra World Trade Centre.
Close to 180 booths are available for Sellers to take up. Sellers will be both Malaysian and International from all sectors of the Tourism Industry.
Buyers will be both Malaysian and International from the various tourism sectors and the target is to have 1000 Quality Buyers who are Owners, Directors & Top or Senior Management.
WITM 2013 has confirmed Buyers & Sellers and interest from a number of countries including United Kingdom, Turkey, China, India, Pakistan, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, & Uzbekistan, just to name a few.
2) WITM TRAVEL FAIR
Will be held on 8 th Sept 2013 in Hall 4 of Putra World Trade Centre.
Expected close to 90,000 visitors as it is combined with MATTA FAIR Sept 2013.
3) WITM 7th INCOMTHU CONFERENCE
7th Year of Conference. Expected about 350 delegates.
2 day Conference held at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur.
Prime Minister of Malaysia has been invited to be the Keynote Speaker on “Building Our Future Together With Islamic Tourism”.
Other Speakers and panellists confirmed are from Indonesia,Thailand, Egypt, Middle East besides well renowned speakers from Malaysia.
Commenting on WITM 2013, Hj Razali said, “So, the bottom line is this, in tourism, you not only need an attraction or product or service but also must know how to market it to the right target market. And this is where WITM 2013 comes in. WITM 2013 is organised by MICEM Sdn Bhd to cater to the vast untapped Muslim Tourism Market”.
