News From : DagangHalal.com (23 Apr 2009)

The Tanjung Manis Halal Park, located on the west coast of Sarawak, has attracted RM9 billion in investments since its launch in February this year.

Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin, who disclosed this, said the investments comprised RM6 billion from six Taiwanese companies and RM3 billion from five local ventures.

The companies concerned are involved in agriculture, biotechnology, farming using modern and environmental-friendly technology and food-related businesses, he told reporters after the launch of the World Halal Forum here today.

The Tanjung Manis Halal Park is the first one-stop halal park in East Malaysia involved in upstream and downstream halal food and manufacturing activities.

On halal certification, Jamil said HDC had approved 1,593 applications since taking over the certification role in April last year.

He said a series of halal training programmes had been designed for both Muslim and non-Muslims with genuine interest in learning more about halal.

The training programmes were part of HDC’s effort to enhance the understanding and promote the value of halal integrity among businesses and consumers, he added.

The programmes ranged from entry-level courses for consumers to those for professionals and to date, HDC has trained over 2,911 participants.

HDC was established in 2006 as a private company fully owned by the Ministry of Finance.
